Nine Lives at Backyard

Daniel Guerzo's Nine Lives, with Joy Victor on lead vocals, takes centrestage at Backyard Pub and Restaurant in Taman Sri Hartamas tonight.

The quartet, fresh from its long-standing gig in Langkawi, also comprises Diosdado Guerzo on drums and Mohamed Daniel Ahmad on lead guitar.

Nine Lives has been around for the last 10 years and its repertoire is extensive, including the hits of the 60s, chart-toppers, pop, rock, the blues, country, fusion, dance, rhythm and blues, reggae and more.

"You name it, we've got it!" said bassist and bad leader Daniel, an album producer and sessionist whose credits included stints with Made in Malaysia, Chilli Padi, Freedom, Lost Souls, Soliano Jazz Quartet, Paul Ponnudurai, Allan Pereira, Jerry Felix, Fauziah Latiff, Khatijah Ibrahim, Sheila Majid, Buddy Loren and Isaac Hayes.

The band was also the opening act for the Bon Jovi and Latoya Jackson concerts in Malaysia.

Joy started her stage career dancing ballet and tap at the age of five and used this to her advantage when she discovered she also has vocal talents.

She also plays the guitar, keyboards and "a little drums", but insists that performing live is her greatest passion.

Diosdado Guerzo combines electronic and acoustic sounds when he takes up his sticks and creates a variation of vibes to enhance the band's powerful sounds.

Mohamed Daniel has been involved in the Malaysian music industry ever since he completed high school.

His talent and experience have seen him perform in various venues in Malaysia and abroad, covering the Hard Rock Cafe chain in Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Pattaya.
