Wed. Sept 14 -- Backyard Pub's resident singer Jason Noah won a Bon Jovi singing contest over a Mix FM radio show and is off to the Netherlands today to meet his idols.

Noah said he was ecstatic of his win. "It's a fantastic feeling. I have been a fan of the band since I was a teenager. I hope to get to meet band leader Jon Bon Jovi in person," said the 35-year-old Noah.

Jason NoahNoah has been a regular feature every Friday at the Backyard Pub in Sri Hartamas for the past three years. He currently plays with crowd-pleaser Jericho, a trio comprising himself on vocals, guitarist Colin Jansen and keyboardist Amizan Ariffin.

Noah beat 40 other hopefuls in the contest and was adjudged to have done the best rendition of Bon Jovi's latest single Have A Nice Day.

A representative of Universal Music Sdn Bhd, who sponsored the contest, said Noah was chosen along with several others who won similar contests around the world. The winners will be among 8,000 fans expected to attend the live concert promoting the New Jersey rockers' new album in Amsterdam on September 16th.

The prize includes air tickets for two, a three-days, two-nights stay at a hotel, transfers and meals.

NOAH'S CAREER ARC
Noah, who runs his own telephone cabling business, has been singing professionally for over 15 years.

The highlight of his career was in the 1990s, when he was part of a popular, high-energy, six-piece band called JRM - short for Just Reached Maturity - that played at the Hard Rock Café and various nightspots in the Klang Valley.

JRMNoah said JRM cut a 12-song debut album called "Experiment" and went on a self-financed, two-week tour of Japan in 1999. "It was a great success and we won many new fans in Kyoto and Osaka," he said.

In 2000, the band signed on with the Sony Music label. A song from their album If You Need To Love Someone was re-mastered and released as a single and was on the Radio 4 charts for three weeks. "We also made a video that appeared on MTV," said Noah.

JRM broke off with Sony after a year, and the band -- comprising Terence Inigo, Wilson Duke, Kelvin Lim, Mozad, Timothy Joshua Ong and Noah - split up because of work and personal commitments.

Jason NoahNoah's current three-piece band Jericho packs the Backyard every Friday night. His renditions of Bon Jovi's It's My Life and Bed of Roses, and Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine are popular requests.

Noah said Jericho will be back in action at the Backyard on September 23rd. Expect to hear about his highs in Amsterdam when he gets back on dry land.
