AMIR YUSSOF AND ADAM FAROUK:
ONE NIGHT ONLY

The Backyard Pub and Grill is proud to announce a special music presentation by singer-songwriter Amir Yussof and new musical find Adam Farouk.

Expect a night of acoustic folk with some rock leanings. The music kicks off at 9.30pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2005.

Veteran pub singer Amir, who has 15 years experience and three albums to his credit, makes a comeback to the live music scene after a long absence. He is backed by Adam who made his debut with his New York-based acappella group The Breakers in their Equinox Tour here in April.

Amir has racked up various awards including the runners-up in the Carlsberg Top Of The Pubs Competition, the Best English Album of the Year 1996 at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) awards for "Some of this is real", and a gold award for his debut music video "Don't Walk Away" at the 2003 Cyberjaya Video Competition.

This self-taught singer-songwriter has played with the likes of Zainal Abidin and Sheila Majid and also once recorded the voice-over for Disney's animated feature Tarzan.

In the past year, Amir has forsaken the live music circuit and taken up corporate duds as the director of entertainment for the new Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

He has not been seen in pubs except for the rare guest performances and jam sessions, mostly notably the Jairus Anthony Music Festival (JAMfest 2004) at Backyard, last November.

Adam Farouk is a member of the New York-based acappella group The Breakers, formed with his college-mates from Cornell University.

When not succumbing to the infectious draw of vocal percussion, Adam jams at various nightspots in Kuala Lumpur.

Adam says his musical epiphany came when he joined the Cornell Glee Club, the university's oldest student organisation.

He realised that music was where his heart was, so he dropped his economics major and switched to music full-time.

Aside from his work with The Breakers, Adam has written musicals, most recently teaming up with Sean Ghazi for "I Have Dreamed: An Evening With Sean Ghazi" . For this project Adam was recently nominated for "Best Musical Direction" at the Boh Cameronian 2004 Arts Awards.
