Backyard Pub and Grill, and Julian Mokhtar and friends, wish to thank all those
who contributed so generously for the Tsunami Aid Concert and our fund-raising activities
to aid the victims of the disaster.
A grand sum of RM16,000 was raised on Jan 9, the day of the concert, of which RM8,000 was
contributed to the medical relief organisation Mercy Malaysia.
The other RM8,000 was sent to the Sri Lankan High Commission which will go
to the President's Fund for reconstruction efforts and to aid in rehabilitation of survivors
to regain their livelihood.
Here is the breakdown of how the funds were collected:

Cheques for the sums were handed over to representatives of The Star (see Press Coverage) and the
Sri Lankan High Commission.
A big shout out goes to all the nine scheduled acts and several guest performers for humbly generating
their time and performances and making it a memorable night for everyone.
In addition, Backyard Pub patrons have reached deep in their pockets for various
on-going funds and disaster relief efforts. Here's an update:
1. ON NEW YEAR'S EVE, the hat was passed around spontaneously and patrons
contributed a sum of RM2,000.00 which was handed over to representatives of The Sun for the
newspaper's disaster relief fund.[View photo]
2. VARIOUS PATRONS contributed clothes, blankets, pillows and bags of rice
during our three-day SMS appeal. ANDY K. donated a full container load of mineral water.
RICHIE donated RM3,500.00 worth of medical supplies. The contributions were packed and
sent out to the Buddhist Temple in Brickfields.
3. SCHOOLBAG FUND: HAM and NADES have started a fund to buy books and stationery for
school children in Sri Lanka called the Schoolbag Fund ("We need schoolbags, not bodybags")
which to date stands at RM27,000.
4. DONATION BOX AND T-SHIRTS: Meanwhile, Backyard continues to receive cash donations
via the collection box next to the till at the entrance and we continue to sell Tsunami
Aid Concert t-shirts at RM30 at the counter.
Again, a big thank you to all who came forward to volunteer their time, cash
and kind in helping in this humanitarian effort.
