HE PLAYS THE YAMAHA EZ-AG2004 with no strings on the fret, just sensor pick-ups.

But that doesn't prevent Gerard Anthony from coaxing some melodious tunes that is at once infectiously soothing from this synthesized, futuristic instrument.

Gerard has been playing professionally for seven years and started playing solo for about a year and a half.

He counts among his early influences his brothers, the late Jairus Anthony, and also Backyard musical director and under-rated bassist, Edmund Anthony.

"Other musicians are Vijay David who has helped me so much in vocal coaching, although that doesn't mean I sing like him. Vishnu (of SWV) is definitely another person I admire and look up to," he said.

Gerard has a strong appreciation of country acts such as James Taylor, Michael Martin Murphy, Edwin McCain, and Lonestar and music that is "easy on the ears".
