A COLLABORATION between Julian Mokhtar and Aznan Aziz, The Corn Cake Kings is an
acoustic/electric folk/rock/blues outfit which started off with the occasional gig at Titus Blues Avenue
in Petaling Street early in 2004.
They perform their own arrangements, adaptations and interpretations of standards and lesser-known songs,
mostly come up with on the spur of the moment.
They've been known to do things like a bluegrass vesion of "Stairway To Heaven" just for fun, or a country
version of "Obladi Oblada", complete with yodelling.
That doesn't mean that they compromise on musicianship. Aznan is an accomplished Harmonica player and guitarist,
his talents honed by his experience as a busker. Julian of course is no slouch himself when it comes to guitar playing.
The two complement vocally as well, adding harmonies to each other's leads. The Corn Cake Kings are sometimes
augmented by pecussionist/vocalist John Hagerdorn, who adds another dimension to their music, chipping in with a
third vocal harmony as well.
